“Since it was a camp for all people, I knew that I would really belong here.”
~Liam
Born weighing just 13 ounces, Liam entered the world with a mere 6% chance of survival. His early life was a delicate balancing act of 14 surgeries, countless blood transfusions, and constant support from breathing devices. Every day was measured in careful steps, often hour by hour.
For his parents, Danielle and Nicholas, the weight of worry was constant and breaks were rare.
That all changed the moment Liam and his family arrived at Flying Horse Farms, our SeriousFun camp in Ohio. There, Liam discovered a world built for kids just like him. To his family’s amazement, they found other children with medical complexities playing, exploring, and belonging, just as all kids should be able to.
Every activity Liam took part in was designed so that he could participate fully, with his cabin nurse nearby to ensure medications and care were never a barrier.
For the first time, Liam wasn’t alone in his experiences anymore; he found peers who understood him, friends who made him feel seen. “These are his people,” his family realized, a community where he could just be himself, free to laugh, play, and grow.

And his parents were finally able to breathe and let go of worry.
The impact of Liam’s camp experience was immediate and profound. Back at home, Liam’s confidence and independence blossomed. Tasks that once seemed impossible became opportunities for pride. His parents saw a night and day difference in his energy, behavior, and willingness to try new things.
Today, Liam thrives with renewed confidence and joy, strengthened by the community he discovered at camp. His journey shows the power of a space that embraces children with medical needs, giving them the tools to believe in themselves and the freedom to flourish.
“This place is priceless. It is the biggest blessing ever.” – Danielle, Liam’s mother
