Spreading Smiles
After a visit to Salama Camp in Tanzania, a volunteer shares a story about camper Adam.
Adam is an 11 year-old camper who attended Salama Camp in Tanzania—a camp operated through partners of SeriousFun’s Global Partnership Program. When you look at his photo, you would think that his big, beautiful, contagious smile was something of the norm. However, according to team members who work with Adam at the local clinic, they had never before seen him smile.
Adam relies on a pair of wooden crutches for mobility. It is likely that this camp was the first place where Adam ever experienced no limitations. He could participate alongside his peers in every activity. Seeing his constant smile at camp made it hard to tell which activity he enjoyed most. No one is quite sure of the exact moment that Adam transformed into a bright, smiling camper, but you can be sure that it had something to do with the magic of his SeriousFun camp experience.
